Paris is overrated!
I just returned from Paris very very glad to be back on English soil. Paris was hot and miserable and the people there straight up suck. If there wasn't so much culture there (the Louvre was amazing, there was this Dali museum that was awesome) it would have been the biggest waste of money ever.
- The Eiffel Tower: You wait about one hour to buy a ticket. Then you wait 1/2 hour for the first elevator only to step into a small death pod which has no ventilation and is crammed with people. Then you get off at the middle of the Eiffel tower and have to wait about 45 minutes to take a second death pod up to the top. Once at the top you can view Paris, which gets boring after about 5-10 minutes, then you have to wait two hours to get down to the bottom where you started. This whole mess cost you 10 euro (about 10 dollars).
- Paris is a hot hot city, it was in the 90's the entire trip. Cokes cost on average 3.50 Euro (same in dollars) at restaurants and cafes. Everyone told me the best thing to do in Paris is sit at a cafe and people watch, so my friend and I after museuming for about 4 hours decided to do just that. However, the minute you sit at a cafe patio, the price of your drink and food doubles. The price increases even more if you decide to sit inside a cafe. So not knowing this, we sit inside a cafe and order two cokes. I see the guy pour these cokes out of two liter bottles. Our bill for these two drinks is 12.60 Euro. We ask the waiter if this is correct, he says yes, and we have no choice but to sit and try and enjoy our 6 dollar cokes. Not more than 5 minute after we sit there a French guy comes up to us and starts trying to hit on us in French. We tell him we don't speak French. He doesn't seem to care. The guy sitting at the table next to us tells him to go away and he refuses. The guy gets up from the table and starts to yell at the guy who hit on us. Finally the guy goes back where he came from and the guy at the next table returns. Then the guy who hit on us comes back and starts talking to us in French. We down our 6 dollar cokes and leave only to return to the hot hot street we paid 6 dollars to avoid. And this is what Paris is.
- Today we went to the Musee d'Orsay. Since today is free museum day (first sunday of every month museums are free) there was a 20 minute line. There were these guys walking up and down the line selling bottles of water. This Italian woman in front of us bought one and after the guy walked away realized the cap had already been opened. So these guys take water bottles from the trash or whatever and refill them, then sell them to innocent tourists. It's disgusting...
- Last night we tried to go to a bar. We decided we were going to pay a million dollars so we could sit and have a drink in peace. We find a quiet pub and don't see shady guys there so we go to the bar to order. Once we order we are told the outside just closed and we have to sit at the bar. Mind you we had spent the whole day (about 5 hours) walking around shopping and going to Notre Dame (which was beautiful) and such. We look around the bar and there are no chairs. So we have to stand and drink our expensive drinks. It was the most annoying thing in the world.
- If the fashions in Paris are going to come out in America next year or whatever, then I don't plan on being "in style." They were scary, I'm going to find pictures and post them when I have time.
- Other annoying things about Paris:
- There is no air conditioning anywhere and it's a country that is freaking hot. I was roasting the entire time.
- Almost every store is closed on Sunday. There was nowhere within a mile radius to eat breakfast this morning so we had to take the subway to get food. All the shopping was closed.
- Everyone there is like 6 foot tall, blonde, and super super skinny, like model skinny.
Ok so that's Paris. You have all been warned!
